Nokia buys Symbian OS, opens code.
There's a story on Reuters of Nokia buying the remaining shares of
Symbian for $410M and turning it into open source to let developers boost phone sales. Symbian is the OS for 66% of smartphones and 6% of all sellphones. This was in answer to Google's upcoming mobile OS and the FruitFone. Symbian's massive lead is sure to expand as developers will be free to write royalty-free code for the open source OS which will attract lots of new apps for Symbian phones. GO NOKIA! |
