[That way, if you run into a temporary roadblock in your understanding or an actual glitch/bug in that desktop-environment, and have important 'production' work to do, you can just drop back to KDE-3.x login, until you have breathing-room to learn how to solve the KDE-4 glitch.] To be TOTALLY safe, you probably ought to have separate USER-IDs. But, most all of us did NOT do that, and I didn't ever get burned and don't recall of any/many who did. And, of course now, KDE-4.2 is gold. Back then, we had the 'stable' flavor of development repos, so we'd get massive KDE4 updates maybe twice a week, and once in a while, those updates broke things in a minor way for small sub-components within KDE-4. Those sort of breakages were usually resolved within a day. That said, if you're a 'newbie' when it comes to being comfortable with deleting '.kde' and or '.kde4' user sub-trees, and having to re-tailor your panel and app layouts, etc, you could err on side of caution, and go for separate user-ids. [Sabayon, as I may have mentioned, also supports simultaneously having both KDE's installed, but I haven't tried that distro. Mepis's current solution to KDE 4.2 is that there is a 're-mastered Live-DVD kit' of Mepis8-rc2 that contains KDE-4.2, but that installation does NOT support KDE-3.x...it's a replacement of the KDE3 desktop-environ with KDE-4. Mepis is toying when to OFFICIALLY support KDE-4.2, but not in M8, except via the (now unofficial) re-master, which comes from a savvy 'community-member', not from Warren himself. That said, I've been running just KDE-4.2 on both Mepis8-RC2 and 'sidux 2008-3' with no problems, but I did the KDE-replacements myself, back before either of the re-masters existed. The users of M8's 're-master' say its been rock-solid. It's been available for both RC1 and RC2, so it's life-time is probably only about one month. But, of course, KDE-4.2 only went gold about two weeks ago, but it just happened to be on the same day that M8-RC2 came out, so the community-produced gold-based remaster-with-KDE4.2 appeared a day or two later.]

Re: All Linux Distro's Links/Online Guides/Forums!
*BSD isn't Linux, in fact Richard Stallman and the FreeBSD developers argue quite alot on the interwebs.
Arch: Arch Linux CrunchBang: CrunchBang Linux - A nimble Openbox Linux distro ArchBang: ArchBang Linspire is obsolete. If a mod can update the OP, that would be cool.
