All 'Mandriva 2009.0' Release News Goes Here
Mandriva 2009.0 [RC 2] Released
"Introduced New Artwork / Kernel"

Mandriva 2009.0 RC2 brings a greatly improved boot speed; support for encrypted partitions in installer and DiskDrake using LUKS; improved support for netbooks; support for Intel G41 graphics chipset; GNOME 2.24; KDE4 theme complete (still some small issues to fix); kernel 2.6.27-rc7; installer new design is finalized.

The development cycle of Mandriva 2009 will continue with the final release in early October.





Plans that will be implemented in 2009.0 Final : -
  • Improved boot time
  • Optional automatic removal of 'orphans' (no longer required packages) in the package management tools
  • The use of the increasingly popular and fast-maturing PackageKit and PolicyKit technologies
  • Improvements to the Mandriva Windows migration and parental control tools
  • A live distribution upgrade mode for MandrivaUpdate
  • A new design for the installer
  • Migration to KDE 4, OpenOffice.org 3, and Firefox 3
  • Splashy will replace Boot Splash
  • Live Upgrade (Same as Ubuntu Update Manager )

  • Linux kernel 2.6.27 [Using Linux Kernel 2.6.27 rc7]
  • GCC 4.3
  • GNOME 2.24
  • KDE 4.1.1
  • Firefox 3.0.1
  • OpenOffice.org 3.0
  • Revamped installer
  • Improved boot speed
  • Improved DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) management
  • Improved language selection
  • Implementation of the PolicyKit and PackageKit technologies
  • Improvements to the Mandriva Windows Migration and Parental Control utilities
  • Live Upgrade (same as Ubuntu's update-manager tool)
  • Initscript improvements
  • Splashy will replace the actual boot splash
  • Lots of desktop improvements
Development planning:The following editions are planned for each pre-release:
  • Free : x86-32 and x86-64 DVDs, x86-32 CD, dual x86-32 / x86-64 Mini CD - 100% free / open source software
  • One : KDE and GNOME x86-32 CDs, including proprietary drivers




Note: The Artwork has changed , but it will go on improving with upcoming release..

Disclaimer : We had last minute notice there might be EEPROM corruption on PXE part of e100 network cards, similar to the EEPROM corruption seen on e1000e cards (e1000e support is disabled in 2009.0 RC2 to prevent any damage). We advise people with such cards to not test Mandriva 2009.0 RC2 or to backup their netword card EEPROM,

Well I used F9 and to be precise its not the OS to work around if you need it for basic purpose . Though its great for development purpose Fedora act as a preview /snapshot release/platform for future RHEL version

Wow, I didn't Mandriva ever had Gnome... I personaly like Gnome better than KDE. Although, the trash can in the first picture looks... well... gross I will download when the final is released, because I don't have much time nowadays for these kind of things.
