'The Answer' is here ! KDE 4.2.0 released

The KDE Community today announced the immediate availability of "The Answer", (a.k.a KDE 4.2.0), readying the Free Desktop for end users. KDE 4.2 builds on the technology introduced with KDE 4.0 in January 2008. After the release of KDE 4.1, which was aimed at casual users, the KDE Community is now confident we have a compelling offering for the majority of end users.

Re: 'The Answer' is here ! KDE 4.2.0 released

Yes, I've used KDE4 (i.e. KDE 4.1.x and KDE 4.2-pre-release and now KDE 4.2)
on various Linux distros (MEPIS and sidux, which are Debian-family, and on
openSUSE). And, I agree that 4.2 now has enough functionality that it
should be able to satisfy most of the KDE-3.x-familiar crowd.

But, with a few caveats:

They still need to do more user-education. e.g. write some tutorials, with
SPECIFIC recipes on how to taylor/tweak KDE 4.2, once installed. The tutorial
could be FAQ-topic based, and should address maybe the 10 most-often
asked questions/issues, such as:
How do I create application-icons on my desktop?
Answer: Use a 'folderview'. (followed by the URL, pointing to the video to
watch on YouTube):
YouTube - Plasma 4.2 overview quickly
(followed by click-by-click recipe to create a Desktop-folderview, and add
a couple of app-launcher icons for some already-installed apps, etc)

They also need to document how to CLEANLY install KDE 4.2 on an
already-existing Debian-family-based Linux distro, WITHOUT breaking
the 'apt-get upgrade' command for normal (i.e. non-KDE-based) apps.
The feeble attempt at a writeup by the Debian/KDE 'team' at:
The Debian KDE maintainers website
is incomplete, and could lead newbies into broken systems, I fear.

Just my 4-cents worth...
