Wich OS is better?
I wrote this for the ppl that hates Linux, but if you hate it. you dnt know it.
here is an overview for all famous os. History: the first os (called super os) was Multics developped from 1965 to 1969 by CGE , Labo Bell and MIT. in 1969 Multics failed, many developpers started a simpler OS named UNIX, using C language! in 1975, UNIX (i think it was the 6th version) is open source,at the university of berkeley in San Fransisco. in 1995 many os appered: SVR4 +X Windows (ATT telephone), 4.4 BSD (berkeley software distribution), Digital UNIX, AIX (by IBM), HP-UX (by HP), solaris (by micro systems)... in 1991 Linus Torvald wrote a small OS for PC386 based on UNIX, named Linux MINIX, after 9 months Linux, can run some GNU programs like sh and gcc in 1992, Linux is "internationalized" in 1994, the first version of Linux kernel (1.0) is out. (by 80 developpers) Why Linux had a good success? * Written with high level language (C, C++) * very simple and powerfull, the shells provides high level services * hierarchical file system, simple and effective implementation * Multi-users Multi-process Multi-tasks * and many others... now a days Linux has more advantages: * Linux exploit completely the machines hardware * Linux has a high quality source code. very stable. and Linux NEVER crashed for me... so not as buggy as windows! * Linux kernel is very compact and light. the basics of the kernel can be registred on a 1.44 MB floppy!! but in UNIX there where no kernel tht can run from a floppy! in 2004, a huge number of servers changed the os from Windows NT to Mandrakelinux corporate server. asian developpers (Japan, China ...) have developped: AsiaLinux. for Pocket Pcs, PDAs, Smartphones... linux had 8millions os installed. as they say in 2012 there will be more then 130million! Linux had a little problem. creation of a new process take more time then it should do. but after the release of threading processors, it goes better. one of the impressive linux productions DSL (Damn Small Linux). can be a server network in a machine with intel80386 and 8mb RAM!!!!! Windows VS Linux: *Linux is more stable then windows *Linux is free (if it is for money it is just to cover transport and matérials). windows is hell expensive *in security, Windows suffer from millions of viruses, btw linux has a very little number of malwares. where windows has a closed source code (encrypted kernel) *Windows has more drivers then Linux do. but drivers for linux increase. *in software windows has a minor advantage but, it is going backward year after year. *Linux servers has all server tools in it.. btw Windows works with adding packs! now if Linux is better the Windows, WHY WINDOWS PRESENT 90% OF THE MARKET? *the marketing power of microsoft makes the release of a new version is an international news! *very big compagnies write its programs specially on windows and no other os! *coorporation with the big manufactures of PCs to delivre windows with there products! *XP is the most stable windows, it is even more stable then windows 7. many ppl hate windows 7 and vista and love XP. WHY? because XP kernel is based on UNIX! XP VS VISTA: *vista is less stable then XP but better error manager *vista has a better harddisk management *XP is faster then Vista running applications *XP has less errors then Vista *Vista doesnt support old hardwares *in vista Aero aqua grfc style needs a better grfc card all this before the service pack 1 is resleased, but after the service pack 1. many errors has been fixed and vista is more secure then xp. still linux is better then both .MAC OS X server? *very simple to use *very good for grfcs editing *uses a lot of ram and needs a Geforce 4 or better *not free *Multi-task . Multi-users CONCLUSION: STABILITY: UNIX, LINUX, XP. OFFICE: Windows (MS office), Linux (Open office, StarOffice, WordPerfect), MacOS Servers: Unix (solaris, Linux ...) Local Networks: Windows, MacOS Speed: Unix (xBSD versions) Linux is a bit slower then xBDS (FreeBDS, OpenBDS, NetBDS) Graphics: MacOS Developping & Programming: Unix (Linux), windows is not a bad choice but still you need to pay for a less perfomant product then Linux Rating: i say there is no perfect OS, but her is my ratings: Linux: 4.5/5 Windows: 4/5 Macos: 3.5/5 Dnt forget to thnk me if you think this helped you, i spent 2 hours searching and writing... and if you find something that is not write or not written correctly i will be happy to fix it.
