Lightbulb Google Chrome OS

Hello Everyone!
Have you guys see the news on Google?
Google is developing an operating system for a personal computer based on its Chrome browser!
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010.
Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

What do you think guys?
The Google's competing both Microsoft and Apple!

Re: Google Chrome OS

I don't exactly see the point of this except for big advertising.
They already have huge fans building on to the gOS, otherwise known as the Google OS, which runs on the Linux Kernel.
In my opinion, and from what I've read other places, this operating system is going to be almost completely web based; you won't have a normal desktop, so you can't install programs unless it's a terminal/console based program. I think they're aiming to make people use their Google Docs, e-mail, and all other services from Google.
I don't see this as a bad thing, I just don't see why any computer fanatic would use this as it has such limited abilities.
