Re: Anyone tested Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala alpha?

It seems like the boot is a wee bit quicker and I think it runs a lot smoother than Intrepid and Jaunty. I did have a small problem with an older nVidia card that I had, unlike previous releases of Ubuntu, but it wasn't nothing that couldn't be resolved. If you think about it though, most older nVidia cards give you problems anyways, but I'm not sure why I had the problem on this version. The ext4 file system gave me a bit of surprise on its speed, way more speedier than the ext3 file system. I also like that GRUB2 is default too. I believe Ubuntu is definitely on to something. But, with all alpha/beta releases, they are just that... a peak into what is to come. I'll be waiting for the final release on Oct 24th.

Re: Anyone tested Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala alpha?

thanks, running ubuntu 9.10 now and it seems to boot slower than jaunty on my netbook, however every other comp boots it faster, might be the kernel, though it does shutdown extremely fast

i would give ubuntu 9.10 a recommended for ubuntu users rating

it runs smoother, actually it seems to be more efficent with GMA500 with the jaunty backports than jaunty was, boots faster, has a nice login screen ( ) is usable, wine runs very fine on it etc, uses much less RAM when shared memory (my netbook has shared)

LOTS of performance out of this OS

How is the support for Wireless Cards?

Every Linux distro I've run into has little to no support out of the box for Wireless cards.

Re: Anyone tested Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala alpha?

its repository has alot of wireless drivers, besides wireless is not such a pain in the ass as it used to be, Fedora 11, ubuntu 9.04 -> 9.10 and the newest mandriva has good support for wireless, i myself had linux run on several laptops, netbooks and wireless cards without a problem

EDIT: oh and ATi seems to really straighten up their drivers
