Lost Root Password in Suse Linux 10

I just recently lost the password for login into root on our SuSE Linux 10. I followed the for the SuSE Linux 10.1 method to restore the passowrd. However, after I entered in the init=/bin/bash command in the Boot Options line, the keyboard gets disabled and I am unable to continue on to the next steps. How do keep the keyboard from getting disabled?

You can try using the Recovery CD/DVD for resetting the root account password.
