Yes it is.
All you need is a liveCD.

Re: Linux without a hard drive

Yes it is possible. Download live cd ISO of Ubuntu, burn it in to a CD and boot in. or
you can request for a CD to be shipped to your Home!!!

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

More details about the live CDs can be found here.

Btw. Please use regular font sizes and colors in posts.

Re: Linux without a hard drive

You could indeed run linux from a live cd but if you want to customize it and install some programs you will need some kind of storage device.

In that case, running linux from a usb stick would probably be the best way to go.

By the way, do any of you guys know if you can browse the web when running from a live cd ? (because of caching and cookies that needs to be stored locally)

Yes you can.
It won't be the fastest experience you have had but it works fine. The more RAM you have the better it will perform.

Close to as safe as you can get too!

When I am away from home and may want to use internet, I use puppy linux on a LiveCD with a USB stick that has all my saved settings/files. The stick ensures I boot up from where I left off last time I used it. Easier and lighter than taking my PC.

A live CD runs of a RAM drive, a virtual hdd drive created in RAM. So all applications, including, will work just fine as long as you have enough RAM.

Btw. the option suggested by RootbeaR is the best way to go. Create a bootable usb drive for your linux distro.
