Chromium & Adobe Flash Issues

Hello to all,

My first post here and I hope for it to be not the last.

I've come seeking some information regarding the Chromium browser on Windows 7 and trouble with the Adobe Flash plug-in.

Basically, I recently started converting over to Chromium seeing superior productivity in a Chrome based browser that had far better security. I began to download the proper extensions and when I opened YouTube I had forgotten to install Adobe Flash Player onto Chromium.

Needless to say, I went through the three step page, downloaded and completed the installation (or at least I thought) onto Chromium. After installing, IE pops up with the thank you page from Adobe. IE is not the default browser (Firefox is) and I do not use it.

So I typed in "about: plugins" on the navigation bar and did not see Adobe Flash player installed or listed.

I tried again, having Firefox closed during the installation. Same problem.

The odd thing is, I have no problems playing YT videos but other sites like weather.com that utilize Flash I have trouble playing their videos.

Anyone have an idea on how I could rectify this? Also, I posted this in Open Source seeing as Chromium is an Open Source project. If it should go into Windows 7 I'll gladly repost.

Here's a clustered screen shot with labeled "Steps" in the process. Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this because most of my searches came up for Linux OS variation forums.

Edit*: The link wouldn't retrieve from imgur so I posted the actual URL instead of using the insert image option. Sorry for it's size, I wanted to post all the steps.

Re: Chromium & Adobe Flash Issues

Chrome has Flash built in, going by that image it's been disabled in your browser. YT made HTML5 video available a long time ago, that's why it works without flash.

habibjp,

Yeah, YT videos are working fine, unfortunately, I've been to that page and the image I posted will show that the Flash player I downloaded is not on the plug-ins page in Chromium.

As I mentioned, for some reason, when I complete the download for Flash it brings up IE11 and the Adobe completion page.

For now, it simply will come up on any page utilizing Flash as a suggestion bar (http://i.imgur.com/cMJtSGu.jpg).

Re: Chromium & Adobe Flash Issues

Just realised there's a difference between Chrome and Chromium /facepalm

Anyway, sorry I haven't been much help so far. My instinct at this point would be to try again with extra precautions. So:
1 - Run Windows Update, virus scans, etc. Make sure your computer is clean and up-to-date (apart from Flash)
2 - Restart your computer. Make Chromium your default browser. Disable IE (Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>"Turn Windows features on or off") and uninstall FF. Check for updates and restart again.
3 - Download and install Flash Player. Make sure the download page looks like this:

Re: Chromium & Adobe Flash Issues

Hopefully in a few years HTML will take over completely and we won't have to deal with these blasted runtimes anymore

Unfortunately, I took all of your advice (some I already took the liberty of myself) and it's still telling me on the Adobe Flash download page that it's already installed and giving the link to enabling Flash. When I do so, I get the same results: http://i.imgur.com/EutCFFZ.jpg

If that's all you can think of advice-wise, I appreciate your help. Anyone else who has any ideas I would be grateful to hear.

Re: Chromium & Adobe Flash Issues

Do you get the same page when typing "about: plugins" into chrome as if you type "chrome: plugins?

Yes, unfortunately they bring up the same Plug-In page. I've yet to come up with an alternative.

Alan,
I believe this is caused by Chromium dropping NPAPI plugin support. More details below:

Chromium Blog: Saying Goodbye to Our Old Friend NPAPI

Chromium Blog: The Final Countdown for NPAPI

Your options:

1. Re-enable NPAPI plugin support.

Go to chrome://flags/#enable-npapi and enable it.

Pleas note:
Quote:
In September 2015 we will remove the override and NPAPI support will be permanently removed from Chrome. Installed extensions that require NPAPI plugins will no longer be able to load those plugins.
2. Install and configure PepperFlash:

Download latest stable Chromium binaries (64-bit and 32-bit)

3. Use another browser!
