EPSON STYLUS CX1500 No Good - Lasts ONLY a year and half

I bought an EPSON STYLUS CX1500 exactly a year and a half ago and it
suddenly stops functioning several days ago. After printing one page
from the web, an error message poped up on the computer screen when I
tried to print another page. The message said that internal part(s) of
the printer needs repair or replacement. The INK button red light on
the printer was ON (not flashing) and all other LED lights were off.
The multi-function printer now cannot print, scan, photocopy and the
worst of all, it does not even allow me to replace the ink cartridge.
The Black ink cartridge installed is 80% full, but the Color ink
cartridge is only 20% full. I called the EPSON technical support and
they told me the printer would need to be repaired if I could not
replace the empty ink cartridge.

The CX1500 costs only HK$788 but the repair fee will cost HK$550-850.
My last HP Deskjet printer worked well for several years. I cannot
believe this EPSON Multi-function printer lasts only for 18 months !

I need to use my printer almost everyday.:-(
Does anyone knows what happened to my epson inkjet CX1500 ? Any advice
are highly appreciated.

By the way, if you're thinking about to buy an entry-level All-in-one
inkjet printer, don't consider the Epson CX1500.

The error you have experienced is Waste Ink Counter overflow. That means that
you have done sufficient printing to make the printer believe that the waste
ink pads are full and need replacement. The error condition has also got to be
reset electronically.
In my experience most Epson printers post this error well before the pads are
actually full and in most cases you can safely reset the counter once and once
only; the next time the error occurs the pads must be replaced.
The reset procedure for this printer is as follows, this is from a very bad
Japanese to English translation but I think I have got it right.
1. At the printer, turn power off.
2. Press and hold the "Number of Copies" button and turn the printer power on.
Continue to hold the "Number of Copies" button until all LED's have been on for
one second then release the button.
3. Press the "B&W start" button for more than 3 and less than 10 seconds.
4. Press the "Number of Copies" button once more.
5. Power off the printer and power back on again and the reset should have been
done.
