Advice on all-in-one please
I looking for an all-in-one, which also has the facility to print directly
on to CDs. Computeractive magazine recommends the Epson Photo Stylus RX640, but I'm wary as I've had problems with Epsons in the past, such as the feeder taking more than one sheet at a time, and print head blockages that didn't clear with the cleaning program. I've had better reliability with HP, but does anyone know if any of their multis can print onto CDs? Or can anyone recommend a multifunction from any other manufacturer? Any advice appreciated - thanks, Ross |

In all likelihood, it would be more----- cost effective to print a paper cd label and attach than to locate an all-in-one, which would have to be altered . . . special tray and special software so the cd is not picked up as paper and sent around the roller, breaking the cd and in all likelihood demolishing the AIO. :-( I believe that you are looking at $7,000 to $15,000 for what you want and it will not be found in a $500 . . . AIO. The "big-boys" have that stuff. We, who cringe at shelling out $500 for an AIO . . don't. And common sense tells us to go the---- cost effective way. |

Re: Advice on all-in-one please
I've had problems with *regular* Epson printers taking more than one sheet
of paper is what I meant. Of course I know you need to change the tray if you want to print onto a CD. I believe most companies do printer models, both all-in-ones and regular, that have the special CD printing tray as an optional extra, and they aren't all that expensive, well not in the UK anyway. All I was looking for was advice from anyone who might have bought an AIO with that facility and could recommend a particular model. It APPEARS that: the Photosmart c6180 DOES have OPTIONAL duplex printing, which I' looking for AND prints directly to CD, which is what you are looking for. Getting information from these "people" is worse than--- getting a chid to tell the truth. The Photosmart c6180 is $240 + $80(duplexer)= $320. The Officejet 7310 which replaced the Officejet d145 (both INCLUDE duplex printing) is $400. HAVE you considered a CD/DVD Burner with . . . Lightscribe? http://www.lightscribe.com/gettingst...ex.aspx?id=276 Here is one at TigerDirect in the US: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...827330&CatId=0 Again: Sorry Johann |

Re: Advice on all-in-one please
That's okay. Thanks for the info on the HP models - the c6180 sounds worth
investigating. I wouldn't consider a Lightscribe or LabelFlash option at the present time, because they require special, more expensive discs - you can't use regular ones - also, they can only handle monochrome images and you'd probably need to fit a new drive capable of handling the new technology involved. And, the process is apparently quite slow. I did find the following quote from a computer advice website re. direct printing: "The only way to get full colour onto the top of a disc without using a label is to use a special printer that can print directly onto dedicated discs. Most such printers are also quite capable of ordinary printing jobs. One example of this type of printer is the Canon Pixma ip5200, although most printer manufacturers have their own versions." Unfortunately, the Pixma isn't an AIO. Re: Advice on all-in-one please
I can recommend the RX640. It's basically the same engine as the favoured
R300 series - 6 ink - with the scanner unit popped on top. It can print direct to CD/DVD using it's supplied caddy and software. Good VFM, but new models on the way - this means the RX will be coming down in price even more. Keep it clean and you should have no trouble with multiple sheets feeding. Use genuine carts every second or third set and they will keep the cheap muck from clogging the nozzles and tubes. Hope this helps "Ross" <ross@bonzo.org.uk> wrote in message news:ffmdnbHNjodoxrDYnZ2dnUVZ8q6dnZ2d@brightview.c om... > That's okay.
