Suggestions for new printer with old computer??

Friend has an old DELL that runs Windows ME.

He had an Epson Color 777 printer that died.

He doesn't use the printer much, but would like to get one with a decent
quality print (and I know his wife would like to print photos). Is there any
low-cost decent printer (say even under $75) that you'd recommend??

Am I correct that if the printer costs less you end up paying more for the
replacement cartridges?

Mel

This may be the case (often is), but NOT NECESSARILY. Cost per page
really has to be analyzed on a printer-by-printer basis.

If the computer has a USB port (or if you add one), you can use any
printer that has drivers for Windows ME. There should still be a fair
number of those available. If you must use a parallel port, Brother
still makes some laser printers that have parallel ports, and some are
low end. Of course these are monochrome only, not color. A better deal
might be a used HP Laserjet 4 Plus, well under $50 and a great printer,
but, again, not color (on the other hand, laser printers are really
cheap on printing cost).
