At cheap end of mono laser line are the Samsungs which accordin to this site have lower cost per page than the cheap HPs: Samsung ML-2570 Running Cost Guide: 5% 1.53p, 20% 6.12p HP LaserJet 1018 Running Cost Guide: 5% 1.9p, 20% 7.6p This will be with using manufacturers consumables, rather than refill or compatible. At these sort of per page costs , colour laser dosen`t look horrifically more expensive to run, bit more to purchase but more versatility: Xerox Phaser 6110 Running Cost Guide: 5% 2.81p, 20% 10.7p HP Color LaserJet 2600n Running Cost Guide: 5% 1.79p, 20% 7.16p Can find out very little about the Xerox aprt from it apparently uses solid inks, the HP is really a Canon with an HP badge stuck on the front, aware that non windows driver support is flakey, and compatible and refills for this model really dont work well: Really need laser for printing waterproof serial and ID tags for items, ability to add colour to tag would be handy. Even the Epson Durabrite inks on `waterproof` media are not very enduring. Will keep trusty R200 for photo printing, did consider converting to bulk ink tanks but it still isn`t waterproof. Any experience of any of the above models or any suggestions. Thanks Adam |

Drawbacks are they tend to need to stay on rather than turned on, on demand, so it depends how heavy use it will get as to if it's viable for you. We only got rid of ours as the we standardised on a corporate colour laser, and they were getting old and needed more amd more requent maintainaince, but they had 5 years of solid service before we got rid of them. |
