Ink cartridge compatibility

I have alternative (Resolution brand) ink cartridges for a Canon Pixma
3000 which died, and now have a Pixma 4500. The cartridges look the
same, on the surface at least, as those for the 4500, though with a
different cap removal mechanism. Can anyone tell me whether or not they
are compatible? It may be that the levels chip doesn't work, but that's
not an issue for me. I just want to know that if the dimensions are the
same, are there likely to be any problems?
