Printing directly onto CD

I am looking for a device that I can print directly onto CD with (Not
Lightscribe). I know there are a variety of such printers but that's all I
want to do with it ! and it needs to be relatively small. There used to be
such a machine from TDK that exactly fitted the bill but its been
discontinued.

Any ideas anyone.

Thanks a lot.

Stephen

Casio has a number of models to choose from. I have one myself. It's
thermal.

Re: Printing directly onto CD

There are a number of inkjet printers that can do this. Some Epson
models, for sure. Others I think (but no HP models that I know of).

Casio made a line of thermal printers that could print directly to CDs,
but they were pretty limited and the printing cost was high. They could
print different colors by changing a ribbon, but any one ribbon would
print only one color. The good news is that they did not require
"printable" CDs, which really means "inkjet printable".

Despite what you say about wanting only to print CD/DVD labels, quite
frankly, a cheap inket printer like the Canon Pixma 4500 can do hundreds
of DVDs from one set of fills and is probably the cheapest colour option
- with excellent results. And hey, you might just want to print a paper
document or photo sometime too!

To my knowledge the only one that does in the USA is EPSON due to patent
issues.

I saw a number of Pixmas in the printer workshop where I used to work,
and serviced the CD-printing function on some of them.
They do require a inkjet-printable CD. A CD with a white label should
also work, but in that case it might be better to just print the labels
and stick them on afterwards.
They worked quite well so long as the various sensor and reflector bits
are kept clean, but it seemed that they are only suitable for
domestic-scale CD printing, as the trays wear out quite quickly.
