Think I killed my mobo...

Was trying to transplant my gf's computer into a new case and in the process had to replace the power supply (old one's cables were too short). Well the mobo uses a 20pin power input and the PSU had a 24pin cable. Well I detached the extra 4 pins like it said in the manual. Then (stupidly) put those 4 pins into the 4pin power input (they obviously don't go there). Well now that I have everything connected correctly if I hit the power button the cpu fan turns on for like half a second then everything goes down. It gets like a split second of power then nothing. Tried the old PSU and same thing...is the mobo screwed?

Now if you correctly connect the power cables with the new PSU, does the same thing happen ? Also first make sure all other connections are also made. If it still doesn't help, most probably you need to replace the mobo.

well the problem is, the old case had a single plug for the power/reset buttons, and one led. The new case has separate single wire plugs for each thing, and since it's a stock HP board, they aren't labeled...

so after connecting the 20pin power plug, the other separate 4pin power plug, and the power/reset buttons (until I figure out which pins are which I'll just use the old case plug. Is there anything else I'm missing that would keep the mobo from booting?

UPDATE: So I tried sticking the mobo back in the original case (for shits and giggles) and surprisingly it works fine...I think it may be the case. When putting the mobo in, it seems like the middle of the mobo touches the case and the top and bottom are really far away. So to actually get all the screws in the mobo has to literally bend. Is there some sort of adapter for this mobo? In it's original case the ***** holes are like raised up to keep the mobo flat. I think maybe the case is making the mobo bend too much and maybe it's making it touch the case and ground out in a bad spot? Any way to fix this or am I stuck with the old case...

UPDATE2: Nevermind...my case came with ***** spacers that are obviously for mounting the motherboard (doh). So I put em in, and everything is working

ok
try do this..
mat a paper or something below your mobo..this problem happen because electric static..
that y computer power off when you push the power button..i have a experience in this case..you don't want to change your mobo..but i suggest u use the power supply with 24 pin connection to prevent your computer mobo from crash..
