Intel Dual Core or AMD athlon 64 X2 QL-60?
Hello everybody,
I am gonna buy a laptop soon. I was thinking of going for Intel Core 2 Duo,but it will cost more. I have googled around and selected some laptop models. So in those my next options are 'Intel Dual Core (2GHz)' and 'AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-60 (1.9GHz)'. Can anybody please tell me which one among these has better performance? (I will be using laptop for internet browsing, progaramming stuff like MATLAB,JAVA etc. Also I ll be loading LINUX in it). Thank You.  |

The Core 2 Duo will be better in performance but the AMD is cheaper and almost same performance as the C2D 2GHz.

Go for AMD without any doubts. In low-end segment AMD performs better. You may get some additional goodies for the same price with an AMD cpu like extra RAM.

Ya.. With AMD I will be getting 2GB RAM and 250GB for Rs.37k (HP compaq), where as in dual core (that is not core 2 duo) I will be getting 2 GB, 160GB for almost same price.. (HP compaq & Lenovo). But they say, in a long run AMD's create problems where as Intels are reliable... Please comment on this...
One more thing. I may get Core2Duo in Acer within my budget. But how about Acer laptops when compared with Lenovo and HP? Thank you all for the response.. :-) Last edited by kthurst; 10-11-2008 at 06:10 PM.. |

No doubt,C2D will be better in performance. But as per your requirements, Athlon 64 X2 QL-60 will be good enough and vfm. Btw which laptop have you chosen ?

I am talking about...
HP compaq CQ40-108TU (Dual core,1GB,160GB) Lenovo G430 415228 (Dual core,1GB,160GB) HP compaq CQ45-112AU (Athlon X2 QL-60,2GB,250GB) All are almost same price... All 14.1" and I am sticking to 14.1" only... I think I will get Core2Duo in Acer within my budget (Rs.40k), but how good Acer is when compared to HP and Lenovo? Suggestions please... |

The Core 2 Duo will have about 40% more performance, but since the amd is a bit cheaper and has good performance a bigger hard drive. I'd say you get the amd one.
