Help with BIOS update in ASUS mobo (ASUS M2N-E-SLI)

Hey there everyone. I'm new to the forums here and first just wanted to thank all the regulars here for the help they provide.

Anyhow, I just recently purchased a new processor as the old one was bottlenecking my system. The old CPU was a AMD x2 5000+. My new CPU is a AMD x2 6400+. MY problem is with my mobo i think. after installing the new cpu, i get random crashes while playing games. Everything in windows runs great, only when i use an application that requires my video card i get the blue screen.

My mobo is an ASUS M2N-E-SLI. After doing some research, I realized that my current BIOS version was released before my new processor was created. Thus, my BIOS is out of date.

Any normal person would then update the BIOS. I have tried the recommended way from ASUS' website and failed. I then read that ASUS has terrible support for updating BIOS' on their mobo's. So, my question to you guys is: How in the heck can i update the bios of an ASUS mobo? I'm sure some of you have some ideas and all are welcome and appreciated!

Simple list of system components:
AMD Athlon x2 6400+
ASUS M2N-E-SLI
4 GB ddr2 800
PNY geforce 8800 gt 512 mb (one card, not in SLI)

Welcome to the forums.

First of all how did you try to update the BIOS, using the Windows utility or ASUS EZ Flash (via a USB drive) or Award BIOS flash tool (using floppy disk)?

If you have a floppy dirive the best way is use it to update the BIOS. Download your latest BIOS & Phoenix Award BIOS flash utility, extract them to a clean floppy and reboot into this floppy and update the BIOS.

If you don't have a floppy, the next choice would be ASUS EZ Flash. Use a USB flash drive & ASUS EZ Flash to boot in and update the BIOS.

Always backup and keep the original bios file saved before trying any upgrade. And if you are flashing from the floppy, if updating BIOS fails, DO NOT REBOOT. Simply try installing new BIOS again or flash with your old previous saved BIOS.

But your problem does not seem to be linked with BIOS upgrade. What you should first try is uninstall your present video driver, download and install Driver Sweeper, reboot in Safe Mode, run Driver Sweeper, select NVidia-Display for your present card, if your previous card was ATi, then you need to select ATi-Display option too. and click the Clean button. Reboot in normal mode and install the latest Forceware Drivers from here :
GeForce Forceware v181.22 for Vista x86 (32bit)
GeForce Forceware v181.22 for Vista x64 (64 bit)

Yeah, definitely agree with that. First try to solve it in the Windows level using latest drivers posted above.
