Re: I need your opinion on this configuration...

The 1000W power supply is going to kill me. I also want at least one external 2TB Hard Drive (eSATA) and I intend using this as a 64bit system to work with Lightwave 3D, so I also want two 24" screens @ 1920x1200.

Re: I need your opinion on this configuration...

Just wanted to comment on some of the stuff I saw in this post. And no, I haven't read the whole thing.

ONE DRIVE
In reality, drives fail... don't you remember the saying "the bigger they are the harder they fall"? I'd sure hate to lose 1TB of ... HEH well, my stuff... yeah fill in the blank. >=D

I'll tell you what, the more you work and use a drive the more likely it is for it to fail, so it's always good to balance the load.

A good setup should use two drives, one for the operating system and maybe installed programs and the other for saving files and other stuff to, while a professional setup should use RAID over multiple drives. I think that two drives is the way to go either way, whether they are two 1TB drives or two 500GB drives using RAID or not.

POWER
Sure, it saves power with one drive over two, but when you have more than enough power to do so then it really makes no difference, right? A smart person should always get a power supply that is 50-100watts more than what the system is rated at anyway.

Ok, so you may be one of the few that want to save 300 bucks over 10 years, if the drive even last that long, more power to you.

Hard drives use what, about 10 or so watts of power!?

Comment to the poster
Nice system, wish it were gonna be mine. I'm still running on some old stuff.

Also, just my opinion, if you use an Intel chip then I'd use a board made by Intel. The thought behind this is "Who else is going to design a board better than the people who make the chips for the boards?".
