AM2 vs AM2+

Does AM2 fit the AM2+ socket? I am purchasing a 760i water cooler and it take a AM2 socket. My motherboard is a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4 Motherboard. Did AMD come out with any new mods for compatiblity with the AM2 and the AM2+ in the:

HyperTransport 3.0 operating at up to 2.6 GHz
* Split power planes: one for the CPU cores, and the other for the Integrated Memory controller (IMC). This will improve power savings, especially with integrated graphics, if the CPU cores are in sleep mode but the IMC is still active?

Re: AM2 vs AM2+

Whats up dude? So do you think I will have switch the mounting brackets for the water cooler to work on my AM2+. What I really want to know is if I need to disassemble the Motherboard from the case and change the AM2+ mounting socket to a AM2 bracket?

Nope no, need to change anything. THe socket design between the AM2 and AM2+ is the same. You can install your W/Cing kit without any modifications to the board itself.

Re: AM2 vs AM2+

In my own opinion, I would get a TRUE120 (with the AM2 Bracket, separate cost/kit) which will cost less and it will be good for something that you won't be pushing to its limits (overclocking) and plus maintenance and setup is easier as well when compared to the Thermaltake W/Cing kit.
