C# mobile GUI freezes while upload

I have a mobile application form where users click upload and it uploads a pool of data to the server via HTTP. It takes quite awhile so i added a progress bar that shows "uploading". Its a progress bar that goes back and forth.

as uploading is carrying out, the UI freezes. the progressbar came out, and froze, or sometimes it didn't appear.

Is using threads a way to counter this problem?

any suggestions?
