Hi Yes I understand that, The trouble is, it is asking for a username and password that I have not seen before, guess their must be a default one , can't find anything in the manual either, you can't just hit <return> either , Oh well back to XP I guess :=( TYIA Later -- M Wright |

Any ideas There should be two accounts root/pw and some_user/pw you entered during install. You normally login: some_user passwd: some_user's passwd here |

Per a previous post that you ignored or misconstrued: "The root password is for the root account. The username and password are for your working account." The system wants you to choose a user name and password for YOURSELF. Do so and keep on truckin'. Well, after reflection, MSXP, MSDOS, or whatever, might be a better bet for you. |

Maybe MSDOS, but I'm pretty sure by the time you get to XP it asks the same questions during the install. |

Interesting thank you But it does give the impression that it wants an excising one, i.e. it is asking me to enter a username and password, not create one , and one's I have tried always come back as incorrect, not as invalid, Will try again later Many thanks Later -- M Wright |

I was never asked to create a password during the instal, apart from the root one that is. I have been involved with PC's since Dos 6.22 right up to XP So installing software is not new to me (I am 57 so no new kid on the block thank you), Just fancied giving Linux a go again, did try Suse1 .Years ago but did not like it , I will try once more later, maybe I was not entering enough letters or something, but knowing the rules would help Later -- M Wright |
