Review: The Best Console - XBOX, Playstation & Ninetendo

The new generation of consoles has almost arrived with the release of XBOX 360 and PS3
and the Revolution in the releasing. One of the most important aspects is that since these
are more machine than a Pc, and can deliver better graphics than any PC that comes in their
range.

Note:-- Your regular TV {CRT} can give max. resolution of up to 480 lines. These monster can churn graphics as high as 1080p. So before we decide the best console lets take a look what TV should be used.

Resolution is the most important aspect that decides the sharpness of the image you are viewing would be. A regular TV resolution can give upto max of 480 lines while a HDTV can give max. of 1080 lines details.

So I recommend going for a HDTV for this type of consoles.


So lets start the comparison.
Lets take a look on the features of the next gen console:-
I start with my Favorite : Ms XBOX 360.

Microsoft XBOX 360

This is Microsoft's battle tank for the next gen console war and sure its is a good fighter.

The XBOX 360 is capable of churning out mind blowing graphics at a resolution up to 1080i and all of this in small form factor. though the current release are touched up the version of the previous titles, except another year for the game developer to unleash the true potential of this beast.

Eye candy Support: The 360 is designed for the HDTV era. All games have been designed at least to a resolution of 720p which is capable of scaling up to 1080i. Though this beast does not support 1080p resolution.
Resolution :- 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i.

Controller: The 360 supports 4 2.4ghz wireless controller. Another pack support wired controller.


Networking: There's Ethernet{RJ45} and its 802.11 A/B/G Wi-Fi{Wireless Fidelity}ready but adapter is not included.

Storage Option: The 360 contains a laptop style removable HDD. It also has 2 Memory slots.

Optical Drive :The 360 has DVD ROM (It can also play almost all CD and DVD format), the game disc come on dual layer DVD's{8.5 Gb} and it can also play XBOX games.

Availability:The 360 is available all over the world {since Dec. 2005} including MERA BHARAT MAHAN. In India it has officially been launched but it will be available to every part after Diwali,


Price:The Xbox 360 is priced in 2 category:

1. The basic package includes one wired controller minus Hdd and one game. Costs $299 but in India for RS 19000 or more.
2. The main package include a wireless controller, a communication headset for XBOX LIVE. component A/V cable, Ethernet wireless cable and 20 GB Hdd. Cost $399 but in India for Rs 22000 or more.

The PS3 is the successor of the most popular console i.e PS2. Sony promises to offer, I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 continues to reigns. The graphics chip is powerful two Geforce 6800 ultra (Dual GPU) together in SLI (Scalable Link Interface). It is the master of all the console.

Eye candy Support:- It supports 1080p the 360 doesn't offer. Besides the PS3 offers dual HDMI (High definition Multimedia interface) ports .
Resolution: 480i,480p,720p,1080i and 1080p.

Controller and Networking: The PS3 supports 4 bluetooth wireless controller.Ethernet(Rj45) 802.11B/G WiFiand Bluetooth 2.0.

Storage option: It has laptop style removable HDD. It has external slots of for:- Cf, SD(regular & compact), memory stick, and Memory stick duo.


Optical drive: It comprises Blu-ray ROM (Can play CD and DVD as well). The games will come on single and dual layer Blu-ray disc. Blu-ray disc can store 25 and 50 GB respectively. It will play PS-2 games also.

Availability: This beast will be launched in November 2006.

Price: It has two packages on with 20 GB HDD which will cost $499 and other with 40 GB HDD will cost $699. and all
feature are almost same.

The PS3 will be officially lunch in India soon after the release.

Ninetendo Revolution

The Revolution is the latest from the master in gaming industry you guessed it right Ninetendo. Ninetendo breaks more than 20 years of Video Gaming by releasing the First ever 2 handed controller.So lets take a look at the Ninetendo new gun in town i.e the Revolution.

Eye candy Support: Though not confirmed it is rumored that revolution will not have any high def. output. This may be serious drawback with both PS3 and the 360 having HDS.

Controller and Networking: Motion sensed wireless controller, single hand use support upto 4 Ethernet jack is provided. The revolution connects to the internet using 802.11 B/G wi-Fi.

Storage: 512 MB of internal Memory. Memory can be expanded using removable standard SD cards,which can be inserted into the slot provided.

Optical Drive: The front loading disc slot accepts 3 types of optical media:

• Revolution games stored on 12 cm disc.
  
• Game Cube games mini DVD 8 cm disc.
  
• Standard DVD media

Availability: End of November 2006

Price: Ninetendo has not yet revealed the price of its console, but it will be lower in price than PS3 and the360.
Estimated price is between 150-200$.



Conclusion:- At the end I would only like to say that if i had the money I would definitely go For the beast i.e PS3, but still i think overall the 360 is the better choice. But for budget conscious people the revolution is just like a boon.
