Post Problem with check disk

I'm a newbie and I'm having a problem with check disk running everytime I start my computer. I am running Windows XP and a FAT32. How can I stop this from happening? I'd appreciate your input.

Re: Problem with check disk

I found this article :

Chkdsk Runs Each Time That You Start Your Computer

Do you have an HP scanner attached to your PC?

If not refer to this article:

Chkdsk.exe or Autochk.exe starts when you try to shut down or restart your computer

Re: Problem with check disk

I don't have the HP scanner, so I checked out the second link that you posted. (I actually viewed both just for general knowledge.) I'm happy to say that my computer's running great now! I appreciate the tip and this site. Thanks.

Re: Problem with check disk

It sounds like you have whats called a dirty flag on the hard drive so chkdsk is checking the drive on startup.

Try this :-

1. Run the Registry Editor(Regedt32.exe).
2. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
3. Change the BootExecute entry from:

autocheck autochk * /r\DosDevice\C:

To:

autocheck autochk *
