Create multiple Outlook data files

I'm a newbie to this forum--and to outlook as well.
I am running outlook 2003. I have several email accounts and run both outlook and outlook bcm. Currently running XP Pro on a Dell desktop.

I want to create new outlook data files (for individual projects I am doing) and associate them with specific email addresses (for each project) and set up mail folders in each data file that are specific to that project.

When I set up new outlook data file--it creates the file but it contains the same email folders as the original file. When I delete or change folders in the new file--they seem to change in the old file as well--as if I have not really created a new file at all. Clearly I have missed something.

Thanks in advance!

You are following the same instructions, move/copy the contents, then from File->Open, you open the newly created pst file, make changes, and again open the old pst file, the changes are shown in the old file also ?

have you tried creating a separate outlook profile and test in it :
Create a New Outlook Profile

Re: Create multiple Outlook data files

Here is what I did-in File I clicked <new> and <outlook data file> and selected new personal folders file--picked a name for it (maps) and clicked ok. It created a new file maps.pst showing now 2 files in that directory--outlook.pst and maps.pst. It is those two files that seem to be either the same file or two files functioning identically. When I then go back to files <open> and open either of the two --they seem to be either identical files or the same single file. I will mess with it some more and try your create profiles suggestion too. I was hoping that by creating the maps.pst file I would create a new pst file with a "blank slate" and that in that new file I would be able to add a new email account for messages specific to the maps project.

Thanks for the help
