CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

I tried to burn an audio CD using Nero Burning ROM. The burn failed, and now the drive won't open. An orange light is flashing on the drive.

I've tried right clicking on the drive icon in MY COMPUTER and eject. I've restarted my computer, pressing eject as it restarted. There doesn't seem to be any small hole above or below the drive in which to insert a paperclip (as some online sources advise).

In the RECORDER menu of Nero Burning ROM, there's an EJECT DISC option, but the words are faint, and it doesn't do anything.

Re: CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

Trying the OPEN or SEARCH commands in MY COMPUTER, and the EJECT command in the PLAY menu of Windows Media Player, all produce (mistaken) messages to the effect that there is no disc in the drive.

Re: CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

I found the hole and was able to open the tray and remove the disk, but the orange light is still flashing, and the eject button doesn't work (either to open the tray when closed, or close it after I open it by hand). The EJECT command in the right-click menu of the drive's icon in MY COMPUTER still does nothing.

Re: CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, and disabling and enabling it, to no effect. The orange light is still flashing, the eject button not working, and none of the various EJECT commands doing anything. Do you think it's still trying to burn the CD that it failed to burn? Would it be worthwhile, or safe, to put in a disk with something already on it, manually close the tray and see if it works, or is that liable to damage or wipe the disk?

Re: CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

hi wish to help you in your cd drive problem

when you said you install and uninstall, enable and disable are you talking software or hardware procedure if only sofware try to do hardware installation open your computer take out both power and data cable and re install

cd led lighting means the cd is accomplishing certain task its ordered to do like when you open and close the cd led will light and also when cd is reading and writing data on cd

you can do like you said manually open the cd and put new cd software disk and see if the cd drive will read the cd your cd drive will not wipe out your software cd

but before you do this follow thjeyam advice see if your computer is accomplishing neros task at starup by opening task manager and if it does end nero from task manager and also delete it from startup

further repair is necessary if this doesnt solve your problem and before you do hardware repair verify if your computer is covered with warranty if it does then claim for warranty either service or spare parts

Re: CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

I agree with spiders on the matter of opening you're computers case, disconnecting the cd drive's data + power cable's and reconnecting them back.

That should fix the eject button (unless this button is physically broken).

When you work inside the computer be careful to unplug it's power cable.

Re: CD stuck in drive after Nero failed to burn

I would try rebooting the computer into safe mode, once you get to the desktop open your task manager (alt+ctrl+del) and make sure nothing related to nero is running in either processes or services (services is avalable in windows 7, if you cant see it in the task manager go to Control panel > Administrative tools > Services and stop any services related to nero). Then try and open the drive, if that doesn't work I would take the drive to another computer and see if you can get it to eject. If that doesn't work the only other thing i can think of is starting your computer with only the power connector hooked to the cd drive, the drive can eject drives without the need of a data connector (the operation of opening and closing the door is burned into the firmware of the on board microcontroller).
