Microsoft Outlook 2007 - No New email popup or sound for Hotmail Account

Being that there was no Tech Support Archives for Microsoft Outlook in this forum, I figure I would post this here.
I have set a "sound" notification and a pop-up to alert me when I receive new email. I get neither. Is it because I'm using a web-based email (Hotmail through the MS Outlook Connector)?

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2007 - No New email popup or sound

I never had a problem with the notifications. Are you setting it up correct?

Here is a guide:

Turn Desktop Alerts on or off in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

And this must be your problem:

Quote:
If you are using a Microsoft Exchange account or a POP3 (POP3: A common protocol that is used to retrieve e-mail messages from an Internet e-mail server.) e-mail account, a Desktop Alert is displayed only when a new item arrives in your default Inbox. If you want to display a Desktop Alert when an item arrives in any other folder, or when you receive items that meet specific conditions, you must create a rule (rule: One or more automatic actions taken on e-mail messages and meeting requests that meet certain conditions, along with any exceptions to those conditions. Rules are also referred to as filters.). You must also create a rule if you want to be notified when you receive a new item in an IMAP (IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Unlike Internet e-mail protocols such as POP3, IMAP creates folders on a server to store/organize messages for retrieval by other computers. You can read message headers only and select which messages to download.) e-mail account.

Strider,
Thank you for the link. I did set up the notifications properly. I created a rule like you said and now I'm waiting to get an email or an RSS Feed to see if it worked. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2007 - No New email popup or sound

I did get a sound alert and a desktop pop-up for new RSS Feeds but still nothing for email. I created a rule to have a sound alert and a desktop pop-up when email arrives through my Hotmail account, but it's not working.

If you set a rule to move the emails from Hotmail to a Folder, will it work?

I have a Hotmail folder in Outlook. It was created there when I used the MS Office Outlook connector. Are you saying I should create another folder and then create a rule to have email moved from that folder to the new one? Once in the new folder, create the rule again?

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2007 - No New email popup or sound

Thanks for your help Strider. The only way I could get my alerts to work was if I set my Hotmail account as the default. I didn't want to do that because it makes everything in the Hotmail account the default (meaning the Contacts and Calendar as well). I don't know if that will ***** up anything when I sync my Windows Mobile phone with Outlook. If I could just make the Hotmail account's inbox the default and not have to make everything the default, then I would be happy, but I couldn't create a rule to do that. I think I'm just going to keep it the way I have it. The alerts are no longer a big deal for me. Thanks again.

Just curious as to why the original word I had above turned into *****? Was it vulgar? Was it to prevent spammers? I'm not mad or upset, just curious.

Does anyone know if there is a way just to make my email from my Hotmail account the default in MS Outlook 2007 and not the Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks?

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2007 - No New email popup or sound

Honestly I've never setup webmail accounts in Outlook. But if there is a working rule there to move the Hotmail emails to a folder, you should be able to setup a notification in that rule itself.

But since this a Plugin, not a standard account. I can't find any detailed documentation for this.
