New pc built having software issues

I just recently built my first computer and I got everything installed fine and installed windows 7 but when I tried to sign on it would be at the welcome screen with the spinning icon and after a few seconds the icon would stop spinning and it would stay there. I asked some friends and one suggested to run msconfig and disable start up services until I found the problem, I soon found that disabling Upnp device host and microsoft window manager session manager allows me to get past welcome screen but after I enable the rest of the services and try to sign on it would go to the desktop and the sound would get distorted and the PC will freeze again. I have no clue what I can do to stop this happening, I am not sure if its because of Windows 7 or not, going to try and install xp and see what happens.

Unhappy Re: New pc built having software issues

have you tried reinstalling? I kind of had the same problem when I upgraded to Vista. I bought the disc, put it in, went through the ropes...when it was finally done it got hung up at the log in screen. The only help MS could give was I had a bad install and must have had anti-virus still turned on when initially started install. Hope this helps.

Re: New pc built having software issues

tried reinstalling many times and formatted HDD before installing so the only thing on the HDD are system files. Also I am using a windows 7 reinstillation disc from my dell pc, dunno if that makes a difference.

Re: New pc built having software issues

your using a reinstallation disc of a different computer? that won't work at all then. the win7 is looking for parts not in your custom built.

Re: New pc built having software issues

There might be a hardware problem of some kind. Go in your BIOS and disable everything that can be disabled (sound, LAN, USB ports, LPT port, COM ports etc.) and remove every internal and external device you've put. You should only have motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU and HDD working on the PC. Then try booting Windows. If the problem is gone, then start enabling everything you disabled one by one, until you find what's causing it.

like I said I have tried disabling the devices until I found that disabling upnp device host and desktop manager session manager will get me past the welcome screen but will freeze the computer either after I get past the welcome screen or when I try using the internet, and what about the gfx card, im sure thats a necessity.

No, you said you have disabled services not devices. As I said, devices are disabled either by physically unplug them from the PC or through BIOS (if they are on-board). Either way, you disable them when you are not in Windows or any other OS. Services are disabled only when you are in Windows.

Re: New pc built having software issues

once again, he's using a Dell pre-configured Win7 installation disk on his custom built. Aside from the anti-piracy argument on the forum rules, the dell drivers are conflicting with his custom.
