Mac OS


Repeating emails in Outlook

In Outlook, every time I run Send/Receive, in addition to my new emails I keep getting the same 5 old emails. Now those same 5 keep coming and coming (over 5000) in one day.

I have a Mac, running OS Lion, using Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011.

I have been out to my mail server and deleted everything out there, in addition to deleting all the old emails in Outlook including the trash.

Easiest solution would probably be to switch to another mail client like Thunderbird or OSX's built in mail client, or just use webmail.

Thanks. I will probably go that route, I'm just more comfortable using Outlook so I'm going to continue looking for a solution.

The possible reasons for this issue could be like your email server is down, misconfiguration of a rule or database of Outlook is corrupted. To resolve this, follow the below mentioned steps as per the identified cause.


  1. Check Rules : You will have to check each rule one by one. To do this Open Outlook, click Tools → Rules. In Name column, disable all the rules one by one. Enable each rule one by one and check which rule is causing problem.
  2. Remove the duplicate account : Open Outlook. Go to ToolsAccounts and check for any duplicate account. If it exists then delete that account.
  3. Rebuild the database : If none of the above method resolves the error then rebuild your database with the steps as mentioned in the following Microsoft KB : Rebuild the Outlook for Mac 2011 database to resolve problems
