Probably not the best idea, Google can penalise websites that use link building and rank them lower.

Link building will always work if you're doing it the right way. Try focusing only on white hat methods and always use drip feeding. Like this, Google won't penalize you.

Link building is collecting links from quality and relevant websites. There is no benefit if the link is not relevant and also has a poor quality.
