Microsoft Publisher "cannot open the file"

I am a graduate student currently on an internship working on a couple of tasks creating publications in Microsoft Publisher. This is my first time using this program, so I have spent a great deal of time on these publications.

The version of Microsoft Publisher that I am using is 2007. I am on a work computer, so there is not possibility of updating to a new version (this also means I cannot change most of the settings on the computer). My files have been saved to a flash drive because the computer will not keep any files saved to the computer.

When I attempt to open my .pub files I get the message "Publisher cannot open the file" and then Microsoft Publisher closes. No other files on the flash drive have a problem opening (2 Word, 1 PowerPoint).

If there is any solution to this problem it would be greatly appreciated. I would love to not have to start over with these projects, but I understand if there is not other way. If starting over is the only option, can someone provide me with suggestions on what caused this error so I do not repeat it again?

Thank you advance to any and all of the help.

First, on another machine, preferably offsite and not part of the company network, with MSPUB available, verify that the file stored on the stick is valid.

Second, in MSPUB, verify that the stick and it's files are visible in FILE OPEN.

Third, make a quick, simple, sample file and store it on the stick. If you can open that, there is some setting in the main file that prevents it's opening, perhaps a security setting, or encryption. Did you store it with a password?

Fourth, why on Earth are you using PUB? Word will now do everything PUB can do and a lot more. There are programs available to convert the .pub file to .doc.

The preceeding is uncalled for, unnecessary, probably illegal, and certainly inexcusable, but it's my story and I'm sticking to it!
