Most probably it's this issue...

"potentially dangerous" entries in my registry, specifically under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatability
http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/re...,backpage=,sv=

"just so you know- avg 8.0 free and pro has an incompatibility issue
with spybwareblaster and spybot search and destroy. If you see the
ie/compatablility active x registry keys, it is because these programs
use this type of scripting to stop active x in registry keys.
A lot of discussion on wilders security forums are about this and I
spoke to a representative at AVG Technologies, because i too am getting
them and i am a reseller for AVG and do not need all my clients
panicking when they see these.
The tech told me as long as they are in the "warning" tab to just ignore
them. Some have found if you remove them to the virus vault then delete
them, wierd things start happing with Windows.
Javacool who makes spywareblaster is suppose to talk to AVG Technologies
and figure this out."

Here's the FAQ on the issue:
AVG 8.0 Virus FAQ:
1198: Infection detected in "ActiveX Compatibility" registry key

You know, another way of looking at this is to see SpyBot and S-Blaster
as loading up the Registry. I don't like a bloated registry but it
beats getting a nasty. On the other hand, a lean machine runs much
better.

I would rather have the bloated registry entries by spywareblaster, then the
bloated services running by avg 8.0.

Me too.
I would be ready to get AVG 8 (preferably the free edition <grin>),
except for 2 problems:
Number 1: I tried to install SP1 for Vista (Home Basic) on this cheap
laptop, and it barfed. I think I am fully updated, except for SP1. MS
tech assistance took control of the computer for about 5 hours in total,
and could not get it to work, despite uninstalling a whole bunch of
things, including AVG. Their advice was Avira Antivir, and so far so
good.
Number 2: Spouse upgraded her machine to AVG 8, and hates it because it
slows things down to a crawl. Hotmail downloads take forever because of
the ad banners that need to be checked, etc.

So, no AVG 8 for me until those problems get fixed (by AVG).
