Old Ad-Aware SE users
Regardless of what Monsieur Knoblocker the Canuk francophile persistently
posts in this NG concerning the updating of Ad-Aware SE 2007 definition files, it is still possible to update version Ad-Aware SE Plus Build 1.06r1 (the paid for version) using the original method, ie: via the update window. Granted a manual update from their site is required for those users of the free version by D/L the Zip and extracting to the Ad-Aware folder, if you wish to keep the previous def file, which I seriously recommend considering the number of crappy buggy defs they've offered users since the announcement of the replacement with their new version, simply rename it "def.old". Easy enough to fall back to in the event the latest def cocks up during a scan or fails to D/L the next available new def file, no big deal there, innit? Whilst on the subject of Ad-Aware products, I originally trialed the first ever version for a year and was so impressed I purchased a lifetime licence (cheap as carrots at the time). It worked a treat over the years as their new versions came out. That is until along comes their 2008 version. Inadvertently I assumed I would get a free version as per, NO SIR, NO WAY, they reneged on that one. Fortunately it turned out to be a gift from God Odin as I tried their free version out on my old faithful standby PC (OS Windows XP). What a crock of crap it turned out to be, I can't be arsed to list the problems, they're well known in any case to all and sundry with a gram of Google common dog. How a company who had such a high respectability in combating malware sunk to offer such a bloated, resource pigging, stuttering, completely useless bag of sh!te is beyond the realms of sanity. They've continued to attempt to upgrade it and it's still nothing but a beta formatted bag of sh!te, regardless of what Calumerty Jane (sic) and her cadre of loyal half baked moderators spout on the Ad-Aware forums. What's even worse, they offer you to pay good money for this beta rubbish. I can accept their reasoning that the old 2007 SE edition can no longer cope with today's malware attacks, but why the hell do they still offer def updates for it then, why not bury it for good? Presently I still persevere with SE for what it's worth on the off chance it may still find the odd intrusion, but take their word, it's had it's day. So when they do finally dump it, so be it. No skin off my nose, I've now sorted an alternative app' backed up as always with that good owd diamond, Patrick Kolla's tried and trusted Spybot S&D of course. PS. FAO Nobbylock, what ever way one looks at it, "you're" can never ever be replaced with "your". Do please try harder, it just makes you look a bigger knob than you actually are. Bunking off "skool" can never be accepted as an excuse BTW! |
