Firefox 3

What's this about a unique id number with Firefox to enable Google to id
a comp/user?

Cite?

Your IP address is available (with any browser), and has been forever.

Rumour in another group. Thought I'd find out.

Ah. A rumour. Lovely things, those.

Yes. It is at the moment you used it.

Time/date stamp + IP address = You

and your ISP will have records of this, including what you connected to
at that instant.

As far as Firefox _itself_ generating some other kind of unique ID per
user seems a bit 'over the top' to me.

You did mention "Google" so maybe there is something to what you say in
the add-on Google Toolbar (for various browsers and OSs). For the life
of me, I don't understand why users want Google to know everything they
do on their (formerly) personal computers. Google Toolbar, Google
Desktop, Google online medical records, Google this'n'that...

Not if you are sharing a proxy. You might be more correct to say IP
Address + source port + Unix Time Stamp = you.

Ok, let's say that. :-)

It still means that anyone can be identified.

The lastest reply on the subject is this

"When Firefox3 crashes, when it asks you to send information about the
crash, select to read the information it sends before sending (or not)."

I've been using -
http://www.scroogle.org
as my search engine for a couple of years. No info is passed onto
Google from it.
