VCD/SVCD Copy Protection - protected against IsoBuster
Today is a great day I must say
OK, like in the topic. I have found a nice way to protect VCD/SVCD against the best VCD/SVCD copy protection breaker - IsoBuster. The protection isn't perfect. It sometimes doesn't work on the high class VCD/DVD players. But works fine (as far as I have tested) on cheaper players. The main idea behind the copy protection is very simple. As we know there are differences in PC CD/DVD drives and the stand alone players. We are going to use that difference in this protection. Lets say that you have a VCD/SVCD with one movie on it. And lets say its length is 60 minutes. The main idea is to : - add one dummy track (can be video) to the end of the compilation - cut the Lead-out time to 1/4 or 1/8 of the total movie len. This method really works! Here is a simple tutorial how to do it - no advanced knowledge is needed to create such protection. Maybe I'll make an application that will do some of these steps for you... Time will tell. Now back to the steps: 1) You will need your movie and a sample movie (10-20 seconds) as the dummy track. 2) Run nero and create a compilation. Add your main movie as the first track and the dummy movie as the second one. 3) Burn the compilation to the image file 4) Mount the image using a Virtual Drive (most popular is Daemon Tools) and create a CloneCD format image (.ccd / .img / .sub) using CloneCD or Alcohol (using Alcohol please remember to select the CloneCD image format) 5) Goto the directory where you have created the image and open the .ccd file using a text editor. 6) Now here is the most "complicated" part of the protection from all of the current ones You will have to goto [Entry 2]. The entry that I have posted here may not look the same like your but the method of modification is the same [Entry 2] Session=1 Point=0xa2 ADR=0x01 Control=0x04 TrackNo=0 AMin=0 ASec=0 AFrame=0 ALBA=-150 Zero=0 PMin=74 PSec=31 PFrame=9 PLBA=335184 The 4 last lines are the most interesting for you. PMin=74 PSec=31 PFrame=9 PLBA=335184 This describes the time of your VCD/SVCD. To protect it we can make the size equal 1/4 (about 1/4) of the current values. So it will look something like this after modification: [Entry 2] Session=1 Point=0xa2 ADR=0x01 Control=0x04 TrackNo=0 AMin=0 ASec=0 AFrame=0 ALBA=-150 Zero=0 PMin=20 // just changed from 74 to 20 minutes PSec=31 PFrame=9 PLBA=335184 And after this modification please save the changes to the .CCD file. Now you can burn your image using CloneCD to a CDR. Now how does this protection really work. Like you know all of the 1:1 RAW copy software (CloneCD/ Alcohol / BlindRW etc etc...) read the toc and read the CD using the information from it. Your toc (your VCD/SVCD len) in the protected VCD/SVCD will be 20 minutes while in fact the entire movie is recorded. The cheap VCD/SVCD players will simply play the movie without taking the look at the Lead-out value. As a result the movie will be played without any problems. Also IsoBuster will not be able to extract your movie (or Track) becuase it fail to read after the Lead-out area ]:-> CloneCD and other 1:1 copy software will copy only 20 minutes of the VCD/SVCD. The protection can be improved a bit... but I leave this to your imagination... Maybe in some time I'll post my modifications for it. Hope that this was useful for you. I'm open to any feedback. |
