Hey guys,
My CPU running at the stock cooler used to touch 61 degs at full load, it's a ClawHammer 1.8GHz......the Stock voltage was around 1.5+ volts.....as I'm running at stock....I thought to under voling the CPU to bring its temps down!!! But my BIOS didn't let me control my vCore...damn!...So after a lot of googling I found a software called...''Crystal CPUID''..after downloading it....I set the vCore to 1.4!!!! yeah! .. And this seems to be Stable....at least at Prime95.... And now let the pics do the talking... Before the temps were like 60-61!!!!!.... ![]() And my question is.... 1) Should I continu with this setting.??? If its stable.? 2) Can this damage anything/?? 3)Can I drop the vCore to 1.3xx????

Hmm .. the whole thing seems a bit odd ... coz my 3500+ used to run at ~1.4V at stock ... and 3200+ run at ~1.35V .. 2800+ running at ~1.5V stock is wierd ... sure ur mobo is doing ok ??
Anyway .. undervolting will not damage the CPU instantly ... well infact forcing anything within limits will hardly damage it instantly .. infact u should have noticed that ur current CPU voltage varies constantly ... use speedfan to monitor it a bit. .. my CPU is oc'ed and load voltage varies from 1.45V to 1.525V ... thats quite a big range , i know , but i have the CPU voltage set to "auto" from the bios ... what i notice is that the voltage stays under 1.5V in 2D mode , temps around 40c ... and under load goes to around ~1.525V , with load temps hardly crossing 50c ... What i mean is , every thing has a rating to run at .... less power can result in redundant clock cycles .. and though ur system may run absolutely stable , u might lose out on performance .. So for all ur queries i've got one answer : enable Cool'n'Quiet .. that should sove ur problem .. let that do what if finds is the best .... |

UPDATE
Just did a few benchmarks and there is no performance diff......And the default recommended is 1.5v......I'm running at 1.4v...So...what do you think?

If it makes your Chip run cooler than stay with the 1.4v, i can't see why Undervolting a CPU could damage it, that too with overheat, play your cards safe, run 3D Mark 05 and 06 at lowest possible resolution (640x480 or 800x600) again and again, Loop it allnight i say, if the CPU is stable than no need to switch back to 1.5v

Thanx dood!.... But I will run Prime 95 2morro or whenever I get some time.....I think I'll run it for about 5hrs...should do.... But isn't there anyway to keep the vCore 1.4v.....as my BIOS doesn't have an option... The software that I use....loses its settings after re-booting... ...Another thing......My mobo doesn't have PCI/AGP locks.....this software "Crystal CPUID'' let me control the multiplier to any one!!! Should I try 10*200??????? So as the FSB is the same...I will not need any dividers nor locks! ![]()

DO NOT INCREASE THE MULTIPLIER ON nonFX ATHLON64's ... they simply do not support it .. ...
Also .. the voltage fluctuates between 1.4 and 1.49(~1.5) .. so i think that apllication did do much of a trick than just to reduce idle voltages ... hmm ... Do you have any option to set a target temp. for the CPU in the bios ?? |

**UPDATE!!!**
Hey guys, .............It finally worked!!!!!! .....I just created a Shortcut to 1.2v from Crystal CPUID...and pasted it into the startup folder... .... Prime95 is running from 4hrs.,,,and Super Pi 32M test also passed!!!!.. ![]() Load temps dropped from 61 to 46....yeah! 15 degs And idle temps from 45 to 39-40!... THANX GUYS!!!! Opps ....almost forgot!! The results ![]() ![]() And I would encourage everyone who has the same prob....if his/her system can run with at vCore.. i.e ![]()
