The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is a privately held, not-for-profit trade association. The Bluetooth SIG itself does not make, manufacture, or sell Bluetooth enabled products.
The SIG is composed of over 6,000 member companies that are leaders in the telecommunications, computing, automotive, music, apparel, industrial automation, and network industries, and a small group of dedicated staff in Hong Kong, Sweden, and the USA.
SIG members drive the development of Bluetooth wireless technology, and implement and market the technology in their products varying from mobile phones to printers. So when purchasing a Bluetooth enabled product, you are not purchasing a product from the Bluetooth SIG, but from one of its many valued members.

It's great that they have a group implementing Bluetooth technology, one would hope that one day they will work together to create some better compatibility between hardware products and standards. I think presently, they are still making their own products with very little thought towards compatibility.

I know I can attest to horrific Bluetooth issues in the recent past. Different stacks support different hardware and hardware does not all conform to the same Bluetooth standard. Then we have Bluetooth 1 & 2, but not really... since your hardware may be bluetooth 2, but the included software stack does not always support it.
And as for Microsoft's pathetic excuse for a version of Bluetooth Stack..... need I say more.

Sorry Pinto, a little rant and rave, had some very difficult Bluetooth probs recently, and it was a bitch getting all my hardware to play together well, and also to find a stack that supported all the features of all my hardware.

I really really do hope that the Bluetooth SIG manages to address some of these issues, it would make very many people happy.
