Two new services from Google

1. Google CheckOut -- Online Payment System

Stop creating multiple accounts and passwords -- > With Google Checkout™ you can quickly and easily buy from stores across the web and track all your orders and shipping in one place.

Shop with confidence --> Our fraud protection policy covers you against unauthorized purchases made through Google Checkout, and we don't share your purchase history or full credit card number with sellers.

Control commercial spam --> You can keep your email address confidential, and easily turn off unwanted emails from stores where you use Google Checkout.

(sign in with gmail account)

2. Google Accounts --- answer to Microsoft's Passport network

Google just released the Account Authentication Proxy for Web-Based Applications which looks a lot like Passport. According to the website, this proxy lets web-based applications create services protected by a Google Account by enabling a web application to get an authentication token without ever handling the user's account login information. The user must log into their account using a Google supplied login page and grant limited access to the web application.

Web applications, if granted, can access certain information associated with that users Google account — for example Google Calendar events. Users explicitly have to give websites access to their services before any of their data will be shared ..... Read more (Google has removed the actual links)

Google accounts is not a newone or a new idea

Hmm ... now eBay has said NO to Google Checkout.

If you visit eBay’s Accepted Payment Policies, you will find out that Google Checkout is banned. In the some examples section of Payment Services not permitted on eBay, Google Checkout holds its place in eBays black list.

eBay’s Safe Payments policy states that a payment service must have a “substantial historical track record of providing safe and reliable financial and/or banking related services.”

Google’s spokesperson said yesterday “Google Checkout is not a beta product. Google has a long history in billing and payments for AdWords and for premium services, such as Google Video.”

It seems that eBay is trying to protect their relation with Paypal and not allow Google to enter in their scheme with Paypal with all their scams. Because I don’t think that Google Checkout is a scam or could become one.

Now .. will Google sue eBay for this ??? .. let's see

Chances are there. But eBay cann't stand against Google if Checkout is gonna to be a success. As we all know eBay is not the final word of e-commerce.

Another New Service : Businesses Coupons

Google enhanced its Google Maps application to include coupons that businesses can create and display free of charge.

The new service, announced yesterday, allows a business to fill out a form on Google's Web site to create a coupon that online users can print out and bring into the business to redeem. Visitors to the Google Maps page see a link to the coupon when they search for the business.

The service is an extension of the Google Maps advertising offering, introduced earlier this year. As part of that offering, businesses can create a profile for their shop and the information, including address and phone number, is displayed to users searching on Google Maps.

The service is free but for an extra fee, businesses can include their logo and some additional information to their profile that appear in the Google Maps search results.

Businesses that create coupons directly on the Google site will see their coupons displayed within hours, Google said.
