Re: Windows Vista Opinion

Well.....of course......Wind98 is still the king of the Hills!!!! But they discontinued ms dos based Windows bcoz software companies and game companies and microsoft itself as well could not get anywhere with the ms dos core! Until xp was introduced the core of xp differed from ms dos, unreliablilty, unstability, and bad performance kicked in!

Re: Windows Vista Opinion

Wow, you just confirmed that 'theory' that I've been trying to figure out. It is that when Windows XP was released, Microsoft claimed that it was not based on DOS, like Win 98. Does this mean though that Microsoft rebuilt Windows 98 in a non DOS environment? And, I would somewhat disagree with you on Win 98 being king of the hills. Either Win 2000 or Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2003 has even better security than Vista based on recent data... and 2000 has almost as good security as server 2003. 98 and 95 tend to BSOD sometimes, unlike server 2003, because it was built for buisnesses and HAD to be stable. Some people I know use Windows Server 2003 in their home computers as the default OS which I find kind of wierd, but I have always wanted to try that myself... I just never got my hands on one of them CD's Well, thanks for sharing the MS-DOS info with me didn't know that until now...

Oh wow, Wolfie, I just noticed, you joined TT only 5 days after me Well, I'm glad that you agree with me about vista. Pressing space will just bring you back to the desktop when BSOD?

Wait till another 1 week and I'll make a Thread about it which I have already completed last year based on the comparison tests I did..but I have no time to upload it!!! It will be in the OS section....Vista subforum!!!
Be sure to look out for it!
If Vista is so good why won''t it do copy and paste? There are 597.000 hits on google of people asking the same question. There are 8660 on the Dell Website asking this question. I went back to Staples and a guy showed me a laptop and a desktop that "copy and paste" will work on . Mine is a new 530 Dell with Vista Home Premium software. every time I press th left mouse button a crosshair comes up and if you try to copy the highlight goes away. Very frustrating.
Thanks,

Re: Windows Vista Opinion

You won't have any of those problems after SP1 installed! And BTW....most people get those types of problem cause they upgraded from XP versions to Vista

Normally its not recommended cause things get really f$%ked up!!! Thats why most pros, myself and Microsoft recommends Clean Install!!! < Better performance for the time spent! Then you won't be complaining!

Re: Windows Vista Opinion

Yes a clean install intead of a maskover is highly recommended but I DO NOT recommend Vista SP1 because it makes even more programs not work on Vista. Have you read any of the reviews on SP1 Matt? I am personally waiting myself for an SP1A, like what Microsoft did with XP

Re: Windows Vista Opinion

Ok, now that you've gotten back to this clean install business and I think I made myself clear about how much I HATE vista -
How do I do it?

I've searched most of the week everywhere on the net, about the best, the easiest, the sanest, or any way to do this and there are no specs given that even say, the first step is........?

Microsoft help (as mentioned earlier) was absolutely no help (AS USUAL!) - I tried 10 different question variations on the subject - they just kept taking me back to installing or upgrading vista. As if there is no such thing as getting rid of the evil monster.

Where can I get the info. in english - not computerese - that will get this PILE out of my laptop. Step by step. I would like to try it myself, altho this week has shown me how much more computer illiterate I am that I thought.

OR - has anyone ever used any computer geeks that you would recommend?

Or my nest post will be - anyone want to get a real deal on a brand new toshiiba
huge screen WITH VISTA!

Re: Windows Vista Opinion

@ Windows 95, 98 BSOD??? haha....never ever happened to me and I've used it for about 6 years and btw.....I don't think you guys ever knew that there was a SP and major major updates for the OS...I don't normally talk about and you shouldn't incude Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 < why? Obviously Windows 2000 was designed for business stations only....but somehow got its way to desktops.....any Windows Server OS is better......its a server OS obviously and the prices are huge and 99% of normal XP, 2000 and Vista programs barely work on the OS....as the name gives it away...it was only designed to meet the specifications of advanced business users/desktops and Office/main servers!

And another thing is that you should all look at this thread! : http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-vis...r-than-xp.html
