Problems with Windows Vista

All of a sudden, Vista decides "No more, dun like USB Devices...."

There are a ton of things I've tried, but none of them work.... I'll just enumerate the options :

Using Vista Updates, hence the bug....

1) Shut down PC/Laptop.... Remove AC Source.... Unplug everything from battery to all connectors, keep everything unplugged for atleast 30 mins.... Then re-connect and cross ur fingers....

2) Update / Flash ur BIOS....

3) Format OS -- No need, doesn't help.... (In fact this is the most comical solution because if one normally formats, then a fresh install should solve the problem....)

4) Uninstall the drivers, restart, come to Safe Mode, let Vista install the drivers, restart and come to normal mode, cross ur fingers....

5) Delete file INFCACHE.1 file, restart....

6) Registry edit -- Add "DisableSelectiveSuspend" key to the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlS et\Services\usb and set it to 1, restart....

7) In Device Manager, point your "Update driver" (right click on USB Root Hub) option manually to "C:\Windows"

8) Go to this folder : C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\usb stor.infxxxxxxxxx.... You would have 2 folders, check which folder has been recently updated, copy the usbstor.inf file and the usbstor.pnf and past these files to this folder : C:\Windows\inf.... Restart....

9) Don't update anymore....

10) Going to break my Vista CD and do nothing....

Any new suggestions / help.... Well, lemme have it....

Did you actually check your USB ports ? it might be a hardware problem.

After I formatted and re-installed, the USB Devices (Keyboard and External HDD) were recognized.... I was relieved, only to restart and back to square 1....

The very fact that all my USB Ports have simultaneously stopped working clearly suggests that it's NOT a hardware fault, rather a software discrepancy....

Although I'm 100 % sure my hardware is faultless, I'd be willing to know (other than taking it to repair to a hardware vendor) how I'd be able to check if my USB ports are dead or not....

It's been confirmed that one of the Vista Updates actually BUGGED the systems/OS and hence this error....

I dunno how SP1 will help, but anyhow, when I go to updates, it only gives me 2-3 updates which are BS updates abt "a software is circumventing the authenticity of Vista" (I have cracked Vista using Paradox)....

I get no mention of Vista SP1 etc.... If there is any1 link u can provide by which I can download and install it manually, I'd appreciate it....

Re: Problems with Windows Vista

Vista SP1 shows in Windows update only after all available updates are installed. Also SP1 fixes many USB related issues.

You can try the standalone offline installer. Anyways we don't actually support piracy. So thread closed
