Re: Drives Change?

Great.. This is exactly what happened in my laptop. I never bothered to fix it because somehow the partion structure is a mess a now. The best solution is a reformat for me.

Now in your case I need to see the graphical partition structure. Could you please post another screenshot of the disk management applet (the last screenshot), without the 'change drive letter' dialog boxes?

Re: Drives Change? - Windows is in D:\ drive now, Change it to C:\

All right, You can make this work using a good partition management tool like Partition Magic. Your problem is that there is 3 primary partitions ( C, E & F) and 1 extended partition (D). Ideally it should be a primary partition (in the place of the current D:\) and the remaining extended drives.

I don't know if it's practical for you, but this is what you need to do.

1. Create a Boot floppy or Boot CD using Partition Magic and boot using that floppy/CD.

2. Delete your D:\ drive ( 25 GB drive) and delete the entire extended partition it belongs so that it shows 25 GB of free space.

3. Now in the free space we just created Create a new Primary partition and Appy all the changes.

Now install Windows XP Professional and choose the 25 GB drive for install. It should take that drive as C:\.
