Re: Windows Vs. Linux

XP is the best out of of the windows ones in my opinion. But they will soon stop making games with support for XP so microsoft will force everyone to upgrade to its new O.S.'s

Just for newest games.
You will still need XP for older games. Can't see 7 supporting games made for 98.

That may be true. But I for myself have been a fan of old school games. The new ones just don't appeal to me as hard as those released in 2000.

Re: Windows Vs. Linux

Indeed, there's something about that realer than life aspect that you get in computer games nowadays that puts me off them somehow. And I have no graphics card, so I can't run them anyway. I got this game called Company of Heroes, and the original i bought didn't have particle effects like smoke. I just thought my PC was to bad to use smoke and fire, but despite the fact that it was a war game, the no smoke thing totally rocked. Then I bought the gold edition which comes with the expansion. For some reason the particle effects started working. But it did nothing to add to the gameplay, I mean, watching curchill tanks with flamethrowers is pretty awesome, but the rest didn't really add to it. (might be because i was running it 800by600 on a 21 inch high def screen but meh

Re: Windows Vs. Linux

I suspect, and fervently hope, that Microsoft's days as the neighborhood 800 pound gorilla are slowly but surely ending. They are losing more and more legal cases, and their lawyers are acting like the thugs they are. Some $40,000,000 of the settlement awarded to i4i was punitive damages for misconduct in court by the Microsoft legal staff. You should read some of their arguments and what they've said in court. Sickening. You'd think they would learn, eventually. But then again they're lawyers, so what can you expect?

I don't think M$s sales of Windows 7 are all that great, either, except possibly for the OEM market where they've essentially forced the computer manufacturers into loading 7. Lots of folks seem to be staying with XP or getting fed up with M$ and changing to Linux. There are some who buy Windows 7 to see what all the fuss is about, but most go right back to XP (me included). Anyway, here's to Microsoft pushing up daisys...Soon. Maybe Apple will buy them, he he! Jobs would LOVE that!

Again, that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it! So there!!!

I would love that to happen... If ever this happens, do you think Linux would become a shareware rather than just a freeware?

Re: Windows Vs. Linux

There will always be a few paid Linux distributions, such as Red Hat, that provide professional support mostly to the corporate world. The great majority will remail cost free. There's too large a programmer base for it to be otherwise.
