Question No Ground Pin In Universal Power Adapter Is A Bad Thing?

Hello people. I have a question about universal power adapters for travellers who use their electronics and in particular laptop in different countries as they travel. Look on this one:

It does not have grounding. How dangerous this is for electronics?

Additional question:

If to connect universal power adapter with no grounding to UPS that does have grounding, will it be better than connecting straight to wall outlet?

Hmm, Usually french plugs do have a ground, But it is on the actual plug socket itself. And American plugs, I'm not sure. All the ground is for, Is in case the machine goes wrong, or short circuits. All of the excess electricity can do down the earth and prevent and further damage.

If all the cables are double shielded then it should be ok (hoovers often have double-shielded cable instead of earth) It'll be indicated by a symbol of a square inside another.

Re: No Ground Pin In Universal Power Adapter Is A Bad Thing?

In the US a grounding prong is not need for low out put voltage electical applicances.

I have a electric heater 1500 Watts- 110v AC volts with no ground prong. Grounding is mainly used to prevent shock if the appliance has a metal case and 210v or higher power, or for GFI's ground fault interupt applications and receptials. and computer power cords from the receptical to the PSU and surge protecter which during a surage protects the computer by sending the surge back to the ground wire back to the breaker box.

We have power adapters here in the US with no grounding.

It depends on the country and the electrical codes and guide lines.

I have done some electrical work in my time not certifide in it I just know a lot about house electical work it is a trait I got from my Dad.

Yes, an unearthed travel adapter is indeed very dangerous in it's self, but if your adapter looks like the picture, it is one fault of many, as pins that are not in use could become extended, and are lethal to touch. Please watch this demonstration and detailed video on all the faults of this adapter -

Dangerous Mains Travel Adaptors - YouTube

It will not comply with any legal requirements ANYWHERE!
