0844/0870 (was: Re: Calling abroad from BT public payphones)

They can be - for example 0844 might be 5ppm at all times, whereas 0870
is 3.95ppm evening, 1.49ppm weekend (based on BT standard price list,
which I won't link to as the link will break later in the week).

The above is irrespective of payphones etc in the rest of the thread.

Anything other than 01 /02/0800 numbers are rip off numbers and
dialing should be avoided at all times see for
assistance in finding alternative none rip off numbers .

Thanks Paul - no I did mean from payphones, in reply to Jeremy's post.

I said that because I think I recall something on saynoto0870 about
0844 being actually more expensive from callboxes, after the NEG
company that supplies so many systems to doctor's surgeries switched to
these from 0870 after extensive protests - and Jeremy confirmed this,
after I was too lazy to look the costs up and post earlier

Anyway, I think we've disected the post that bumped the thread by now -
1 penny a minute for 0844 doesn't apply from payphones
