However given the media fuss you would think it is an extra £1.50 a month,
or come to that an extra £15 a month!

There was another interesting bit above that that would be of interest for
people that transfer their service to another OLO.

"From 1st May 2007, we will replace the existing charges for customers
ending their service early. In their place is a policy that requires
customers to pay the outstanding line rental for the 12 month minimum term
of the contract."

So as OLOs have been getting people to get a new line installed from BT then
migrate to them, the end user will have to pay BT a full years line rental.
Suppose no reason why OLO can't get Openreach to provide the line.

Since BT were freed to charge what they liked in the dometsic market we seem
to have seen lots of stealth increases. Rounding up to nearest X, per minute
charging rather than per second, connection fees. All increases that the
average user will find hard to pin down.

This is all beginning to look like the 118XXX fiasco, whereby the costs were
supposed to fall, but rose, and where the user found it hard to compare.

BT used to say their line rental was £12 a month but you could get £1
a month discount if you paid by dd reducing the price to £11 a month.

However, at the same time as increasing their line rental by 50p a
month to £12.50 a month, they altered the way the figures were
presented so that, instead of saying monthly line rental was now
£12.50 a month but you can get £1.50 a month discount if you pay by
dd, they said the standard line rental was £11/month but that you had
to pay £1.50 a month extra (£12.50 a month) if you didn't pay by dd.

How are they going to enforce this charge..? If the leaving customer just
doesn't pay it, are they going to take them *all* to court to get a
fiver..?

anymore of their wrong billings, speed capping and the many other
abortions that make up Bramston's mob these days including lying
