If you do decide to leave BT, be warned they will charge a £5
administration fee for this from 1/5/07.

Errr... I don't think it has. The fees for ending a contract early now
mean you have to pay for the whole year.

The £5 admin fee was published in the paper 'Update' I received with my
BT bill last week. I see nothing to suggest it's been dropped on BT's
website; well nothing at all actually...

yes, its there, but it dosnt say how much though..

http://www2.bt.com/static/i/btretail.../informed.html
"From 1st May 2007, we will replace the existing charges for customers
ending their service early. In their place is a policy that requires
customers to pay the outstanding line rental for the 12 month minimum
term of the contract.

Customers moving home and transferring BT service to their new address
will be subject to a new minimum term from the date of start of
service at the new address."

But, the existing charges are £13 in month 1 and £8 in month 2 - for
reconnections.

Scroll to the botton of
<http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Exch_Lines_boo/0002_d0e63.htm#0002-d0e63>

New lines have a fee of £18 in months 1 to 9.

The £5 being referred to is a transfer away fee, AFAIK & is nothing to
do with penalies. I believe it will still be charged if you leave after
10 years
