DECT plus Skype question
Have at the moment a Philips kalavox 300 answermachine/dect phone plus
an extension kalavox phone. They have served me well but one of the phones are starting to get dated (buttons getting rubbery) I hardly use the answerphone as bt 1571 works for me. The extension phone is perfect. I am looking to replace the system and have been looking at the Netgear SPH200D as it does skype and dect so best of both worlds, the dect extension phone for the Netgear is not out yet. Was wondering if my existing dect phone would work with the Netgear or are dect systems all different? Tried emailing Netgear with no answer. |

Have you thought about using a proper VoIP service instead of the toy town Skype? |

My advice to you is to forget Skype and use one or more of the many SIP providers out there. Working conditions here is a Linksys PAP2 ATA which is a two line device. Each analogue port is connected to its own DECT base-station (his and hers) The PAP2 only allows for a single provider on each line, so I use a free service called Voxalot to host my multiple SIP providers The main one for my outgoing calls is VoIPCheap.com and I have several Sipgate accounts for incoming calls from the PSTN, these have normal geographic phone numbers like 020, 0161, and they are free. The only on-going cost is the Voipcheap account For 11.90 Euros You get 90 days of free UK geographic calls, and many international destinations (subject to 300 min per week) and my account usually bottoms out nicely after the 90 days due to the UK mobile calls that are made @ 6.5 pence per min (inc.) Well Les, have I enticed you away from Skype, plenty of help available on this Newsgroup. By the way, why are you posting via Google Groups? -- 73's Graham G3ZVT %Profound_observation% |

DECT normally encodes speech using ADPCM at standard telephony bandwidth, so I doubt that Skype's higher-quality wideband codec would be used, unless the phone is actually using a DECT data profile. |

Will give you a laugh - got pipex after euro1net went under and left my landline with BT - got the package which included all calls and broadband - been chasing them for weeks to send me a bill for my telephone calls - they were adament that I was not with them - even got an email from them saying so - rang BT and they said I was not with them - spoke to a friend who was with BT as I was afraid I was building costs up big style. He advised that if I went on to BT phone package it would trigger a bill. Got this email from pipex this morning. We have received a request received to cease your Pipex Anytime service We have been advised that an order has been placed on your behalf to transfer your telephone service from Pipex to another telephone provider. The number that will be affected by this switch is XXXXXXXXX This transfer will take place in approximately 10 working days time as arranged with your new telephone service provider. As a result of this transfer your agreement with Pipex will now be terminated. As such we will no longer be able to provide the following products or services: Pipex Anytime Call packages As a consequence of this contract termination you may be liable for termination charges and/or adjustments if:: .. Your Pipex Anytime service was established less than 12 months ago .. As a result of any agreement, you have received a discount/credit on your account We would like to alert you to the fact that if you had taken advantage of a Pipex Anytime promotionally priced ADSL offer then you will now be charged for your ADSL service at the non-discounted price. Pipex Anytime charges are billed in arrears and consequently you will receive your revised monthly bill in due course. Looks like pipex is as bad as euro1net!!!!!! will accept 4 months outstanding bill and pull the plug (anyone know of a good isp with telephone (all calls) service?? > -- > > 73's > Graham G3ZVT > > %Profound_observation%- Hide quoted text - > > - Show quoted text - |
