I am getting the same phone calls. I have also emailed
martin.thorn@smarter-loan.co.uk , gordon.hellyar@contact4.com. I hope
I get a reply soon or they take my number off this silly list.

I just had one from 0844 884 4656

They tried to make out that it was an official call with frequent
mention of "government advice", I did not bother pressing 5 for further
information as it was obviously a scam. Anyone know who it is?

I have been told it is a US based scam

Yes, I had just such a call half an hour ago - same number, and
"Government Information Announcement" but (assuming that my debts exceed
£5k and that I'm in steady employment) offering to write off 75% of my
owings.

I dialled "5" and asked the anglo-voiced girl who answered who she
worked for, and was told "The Information Team" (twice) and when I
insisted on the company registration number, was switched to an
american-voiced male recording which invited me to write to Suite 600, 1
Commercial Centre, Orange Street, Wilmington, Delaware.

Shifty! I suppose that the US basing avoids the "no sales calls" list?

Hi

I keep getting calls as well it's driving me up the wall as they keep
calling really early in the morning when I answer if they don't hang
up they lie & tell me they are from various companies, insurance,
finance, answering service etc. & if that doesn't happen they leave a
voice mail with nothing on it which costs me money to listen to.
Today I have had 10 of these.

Thanks I thought I was the only one getting these calls.

Jenny

My family has been getting these calls for the last 6 weeks (asking
for a Mr. John Bell) and as we're ex-directory and family members call
only in the evening, we know who it is if it's a daytime call. We did
get quite annoyed with it before but now we compete with each other to
see who can come up with the best reply to "Hello, can I speak to Mr.
John Bell please?" (telling them he died in a freak hot air balloon
accident, for example).

as of 27/07/07 this number is clydesdale finance.
When ever I receive any calls now where there is a silence at the
other end, I let them speak, and make out I can not understand what
they are saying, their voice tone gets louder, I then ask abruptly
what they want, they then tend to tell you who they are, it works
every time.

When they ask for the person they are after, I tend to say wait a
minute I shall go and get them. I then leave the company holding on
for at least 5mins, they won't ever phone again.

Re: 08445560022

I'm getting a lot missed calls from 08445560022 but when I check my
voice mail there are silent messages from 01413052000 which is the
number of Contact4, the call centre outsourcing company in Glasgow.
Coincidence? Probably not! Anyway, I called them and explained what
was happening but they were unable (or unwilling maybe?) to say why I
was being called. I asked they stop and they said they'd take my
number off their list but it could take up to a week for the silent
calls to stop.

They've now morphed into GMAC Mortgages.
