And the reasoning behind that constructive comment was what, exactly..?

When I get a cold call from (say) XYZ Bank, they usually do say that
they're XYZ Bank.

.... and you have a 100% perfect memory that instantly recalls every
subtle variation of XYZ bank, xYZ bank, Xyz credit cards etc ... for
every one of the cold calls you've had throughout your life?

Not every single case, no, but I do have a good memory for patterns. If I
receive a call, I will usually remember if that person/company has called
me before. I might forget the first time, but if they call me again, I'll
almost certainly remember it.

However, that isn't directly relevant to the point I was making, but I'll
let it pass..!

Perhaps the banks need a password or codeword or phrase that is only
accessible by their security people so they can verify who they are i.e.
not available to the muppets in the call centres doing sales etc.
Hopefully the security people are vetted a bit more thoroughly.

Not always, the scam that I received from 0844 884 4656 last week never
mentioned who it was, just tried to imply that it was a government
information call. Someone else pressed to the 5 to speak to a human and
even then they would say that it was "The Information Team". He
eventually got an address in Delaware but that just looks like an
accomodation address.

Some calls purport to be surveys and it takes some time to get the name
of the company sometimes.

I sometimes get the name and put a complaint in but it is a waste of
time, why should OFCOM bother with scum like this when they can get
£50,000 out of the BBC for a trivial error on Blue Peter. The OIC are
just as bad.

Why on Earth not? If they're that idiotic about security, I'd rather
know so I can take my money elsewhere.

I hope most BANKS are more sensible. And by refusing to name them,
you're not exactly helping...

They're also apparently running from a script. I too was told it was a
Government information call, and also eventually got a Delaware address.
At that point I hung up. I suppose it might be worth a complaint to the
Delaware equivalent of the TPS/OFCOM/whatever

I EMailed the Delaware Attorney General 's office but they said that the
address does not exist.

"Thank you for alerting us to this possible scam. I don't recognize the
address of One Commercial Center, Orange Street (Wilmington is a very
small city). I am guessing that if it exists it is a mail forwarding
service, but I will ask an investigator to check it out."

"Actually, it is not even a mail forwarding service--there is no such
address."
